Povzetek

V poznem srednjem veku so na slovenskem etničnem ozemlju nastali trije samostani dominikank. Skladno z redovnimi načeli in ideali so pozornost namenile tudi pouku ženske mladine in prepisovanju besedil, največjo pozornost pa redovniškim opravilom, molitvi. V dominikanski red so v glavnem vstopala dekleta plemiškega rodu.

Summary

In the Late Middle Ages, three Dominican convents were established in the Slovenian ethnic territory. In accordance with the principles and ideals of their order, the nuns also devoted attention to the education of young women and the copying of texts, while their primary focus was on their religious duties and prayer. The Dominican Order attracted primarily girls of noble descent. Despite numerous visitations conducted up to 1782, when the convent was dissolved, the convent library received no particular mention. References to books are scarce; greater emphasis was placed on the fact that there were no books considered to be “harmful reading”. Some information on the number of religious books is available only from the time of the convent’s dissolution in 1782, in an inventory of the contents of the cell of the Magdalene nuns.

No records concerning the convent library have survived. Nevertheless, individual books bearing the stamp of the Studenice convent can be found in the holdings of several institutions. This is due to the fact that, after the Second World War, the book collections of dissolved convents and other organisations were taken over by various libraries or other institutions. Their libraries naturally shared the fate of the dissolved convents themselves. Some were transferred elsewhere, some were sold or dispersed, and many were destroyed. The surviving individual volumes, primarily in the University of Maribor Library as well as in several other institutions and private collections, whose provenance is established by the stamp of the Studenice convent, provide a basis for attempting to reconstruct the convent’s book collection.

Zusammenfasssung
