Vekoslav Grmič je vnašal s svojo dialoško miselnostjo v slovensko pokoncilsko teologijo s somišljeniki tudi ekumenski duh. Kot večni iskalec resnice je mnoge svoje razprave namenil živetemu ekumenizmu, medtem ko je v opravljanju svoje škofovske in profesorske službe aktivno sodeloval v slovenskem ekumenskem gibanju ter v organizaciji in izvedbi medfakultetnih ekumenskih simpozijev, ki so jih na ozemlju bivše Jugoslavije organizirale teološke fakultete različnih krščanskih cerkva. Kot nesporna avtoriteta svojega časa si je prizadeval za dialog s predstavniki drugih cerkva, saj je verjel, da so različne veroizpovedi samo norme verovanja in kažipot k enemu Bogu. Vse pomenijo odločitev za Boga in za Kristusa, človeka pa postavljajo v božjo bližino in v stik z Bogom, ki se razodeva. V sodob­ no razumevanje sveta in Cerkve je vnašal težnjo po strpnosti in razumevanju vsega, kar imajo krščanske cerkve skupnega, in ne izpostavljanja tega, kar jih ločuje. V tem smislu je gledal tudi na odločilne dogodke narodne zgodovine, ki so povzročili vznik protestantske teologije in reformacije na Slovenskem.

Vekoslav Grmič, with his dialogical mindset, also brought an ecumenical spirit to Slovenian post­conciliar theology with his followers. As an eternal seeker of truth, he devoted many of his discussions to living ecumenism, while in the exercise of his episcopal and professorial ministry he actively participated in the Slovenian ecumenical movement and in the organisation and execution of inter­faculty ecumenical symposia, which were organised in the territory of the former Yugoslavia by the theological faculties of the various Christian churches. As the undisputed authority of his time, he sought dialogue with representatives of other churches, believing that different denominations were only norms of belief and signposts to the one God. They all imply a decision for God and for Christ, and they place man in the presence of God and in contact with God who reveals himself. He brought into the modern understanding of the world and of the Church a tendency to tolerance and understanding of all that the Christian churches have in common, rather than emphasising what separates them. In this sense, he also viewed the decisive events of national history that gave rise to Protestant theology and the Reformation in Slovenia.

Mit seiner dialogischen Denkweise brachte Vekoslav Grmič mit seinen Anhängern auch einen ökumenischen Geist in die slowenische nachkonziliare Theologie ein. Als unermüdlicher Sucher nach der Wahrheit widmete er viele seiner Diskussionsbeiträge der gelebten Ökumene. In Ausübung seines bischöflichen und professoralen Amtes beteiligte er sich aktiv an der slowenischen ökumenischen Bewegung und an der Organisation und Durchführung von fakultätsübergreifenden ökumenischen Symposien, die auf dem Gebiet des ehemaligen Jugoslawiens von den theologischen Fakultäten der verschiedenen christlichen Kirchen abgehalten wurden. Als unbestrittene Autorität seiner Zeit suchte er den Dialog mit Vertretern anderer Kirchen, in der Überzeugung, dass unterschiedliche Kon­ fessionen nur Glaubensnormen und Wegweiser zu dem einen Gott sind. Sie alle bedingen eine Entscheidung für Gott und für Christus, und sie bringen den Menschen in die Nähe Gottes und in Kontakt mit Gott, der sich offenbart. In das zeitgenössische Verständnis der Welt und der Kirche brachte er eine Tendenz zur Toleranz und zum Verständnis all dessen ein, was die christlichen Kirchen gemeinsam haben, anstatt hervorzuheben, was sie voneinander trennt. In diesem Sinne betrachtete er auch die entscheidenden Ereignisse der nationalen Geschichte, aus denen die protestantische Theologie und die Reformation in Slowenien hervorgingen.
